Haddock can only be found in the North Atlantic and has been caught by Icelandic fishermen for centuries. Haddock can be found all around the coast line of Iceland.  It is closely related to the cod and a good substitute for the Atlantic cod. It is smaller than cod and can reach up to a meter long and 20 kilograms. However, the average size is 50 - 65 cm.

The taste is slightly sweeter then the cod but the flesh is also white and flaky.

Haddock is an excellent source of dietary protein and contains a good deal of vitamin B12, pyridoxine and selenium and a healthy balance of sodium and potassium, with very little fat.
